Once they arrive with WBBR they are placed in foster care where their personality is assessed and they are provided with any needed medical care. All our dogs are spayed or neutered, brought up to date on their vaccines and are seen by our veterinarian before placement. WBBR/LA boxers are housed at the BRLA shelter or in foster care in the Los Angeles area. The dogs that are placed by WBBR are usually homeless due to no fault of their own. They come to us through BRLA, local shelters, breeders or are surrendered to us directly by their previous owners. They arrive in rescue for various reasons, from being to big/hyper to the family having to move, but one thing always stays the same, they are wonderful boxers who would love to have a forever family to call their own.
6 and a half years ago my husband and I were approved to adopt our first
6 years ago I started volunteering doing home visits and fostering for Boxer ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I love being part of rescuing these sweet angels. Unless you have had this wonderful breed you can't know how sensitive and giving they are. You have this sweet dog that has spent some stressful time in a kennel or has been neglected or abused and they meet there new family with their hearts worn on their front paws. They know that life is going to change and are so happy to give you a huge hug and a sloppy kiss! Since meeting Chantelle and Heather and becoming involved in this I have had the opportunity to meet so many of our new potential parents. Myself and my boxer girl Lexi do alot of the home visits or try to help Chantelle with airport pick ups. Lexi loves to go visit with everyone and shower them with her unconditional boxer love. Kerri and Lexi ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Without Borders Boxer Rescue (WBBR) is an organization of volunteers who are dedicated to finding loving forever homes for homeless boxers and promoting responsible pet ownership. We are affiliated with Boxer Rescue Los Angeles (http://www.boxer-rescue-la.com) and work with other rescue groups, shelters, veterinarians and breeders to help achieve our goals. In the beautiful Comox Valley I assist Chantelle my doing home visits or calls here on Vancouver Island. I got involved as I have rescued Boxers since 1973, starting with a young female who was being abused, proceeding through a brother and sister (can you believe their names were Sampson and Delilah!!) who their former owner couldn't keep; then when we lived in Prince Rupert for some reason people knew me as the "Boxer lady" so I was asked twice their to take dogs who were in bad situations. We have been the proud parents of Sasha, Sampson and Delilah, Abdul, Baron, Salvus (when you rescue sometimes you have to keep the dog call-name!) and after a few years of rescuing English and French Mastiffs now find ourselves the proud owners (for just over two years) of a tan female, Amber, who is a delight indeed.
I’ve had boxers for over 35 years and admired and love this breed. I first became aware of the Rescue Group through Jeff at Sit Happens, when I hired him to help me with my newly acquired boxer pup 5 years ago, which proved to the best money I have ever spent. In that class I met Chantelle with Chance and became aware of what she did to help these dogs. I decided I would do what I could to help. We adopted an older boxer “Sara” about 4 years ago from the Rescue group and we happy to be able to give her a good home for the remainder of her years. I was able to assist in putting the Society documentation together and raise some money for the Society through by business connections and will continue to do so.
Hi from Nanoose Bay, B.C.
We are Brenda and Dana McComber (weloveboxers@shaw.ca) .When Brenda was a little girl, she had an uncle who raised boxers and she loved them from the first time she laid eyes on them. In 1984, we moved from Victoria to Nanaimo, and we adopted a black Lab, Jackson, who lived a great life of 13 1/2 years before cancer forced us to make a fateful decision. After Jack's passing, we were dog free for a few months, and one night I (Dana) saw an ad for a Boxer in the local Buy,Sell, Trade publication. Turns out that Jazzy was much loved, and had been purchased from a pet store to be company with another dog. Grandma died suddenly, and left 2 dogs, so Jazzy's family felt they had to reduce their family size, and with Jazzy being the lowest in seniority at 7 months, she was advertised. I sat with her for over an hour and she was finally allowed to come home with me. She was a wonderful girl and she would sit and lie in the sun at the edge of our property, untethered and without a fence. A herd of cats, dogs and horses could go by and she wouldn't even flinch. Jazzy lived a wonderful 8 1/2 years before she died suddenly in January 2007. After a family burial in our yard, we swore we'd never get another dog as we did not want to go through that anguish again.
By March, our house was feeling empty. Our kids are grown and gone, and we missed the pitter patter of little feet and the loving licks that only a Boxer owner can know. As with everything, we researched Boxers on the Internet and came across the idea of rescue. It had never occurred to us before that there might be a dedicated Boxer rescue organization. We found dozens! We looked at a little girl from Washington State, and we travelled well south of Tacoma just to see her and hopefully pick her up. We came home with an empty crate - the rescue felt that she was not yet ready to be adopted.
Then we found BRLA, and though them Chantelle and Without Borders Boxer Rescue. After completing an application and passing a home visit, we were ready for a dog. We had mentioned to Chantelle that we had read in our research that sometimes it is just as easy to have 2 dogs - in that they keep each other company and will probably be a bit less bored and better behaved. Maybe a few months after we get our first we told her. So we waited. We went through the BRLA galleries a million times - that one! No - that one !!
One day, Chantelle sent us an e-mail. "Look at these two. I know that you wanted to wait awhile after the first adoption, but these are AKC registered Boxers who were surrendered together and must be adopted together".
At first look we were in love. Muffet and Diesel! She is six months older than he, and they had two litters together before the previous owner had her spayed - 7 pups in all. We waited anxiously to hear that we would be the successful new parents of such a fine pair.
In early April, we met Chantelle at YVR as Muffet, Diesel and a little guy named Dino made their way through customs etc. We bundled them off and raced to make the last ferry home!
It has been a love story ever since. They are well behaved, love their night time cuddles before going to sleep in their crates, and they love their liver cookie treats and their Sunday morning omelette. They eat Canidae dog food - made from 100% human consumables. We were shocked when we researched some of the ingredients in even "high end" dogs foods. As it turned out, we got both of their complete medical histories, their AKC registration papers, and their family history. We have been able to contact the previous owner, and she is very happy that her babies found a loving home in Canada.
As the alpha, Miss Muffet can be a bit of a biotch to Diesel, but as a forever puppy, he takes it in stride. When we are both working, Outbound Hounds comes in to visit for a half hour or so - gives them treats, plays with them and pees and poos them. Family will also drop in from time to time as well.
We try to help out with rescue and have our names as transport volunteers with CUR and WBBR. We are also able to do home visits. Unfortunately, because Miss Muffet was viciously attacked as a youngster, she has no trust of other dogs except Diesel, so we are unable to foster. We make small donations to both WBBR and to BRLA as we can afford, and we support fundraising efforts.
Boxers are the best dogs! We get plenty of stares when we walk them - mostly stares of envy :)

Volunteer Since: July 2007
I conduct the home visits once the applications are approved and forwarded to me. I've met alot of great people who have opened their hearts to adopting a boxer. I love the breed! My husband and our 4 year old Brindle boy adopted a female fawn thru the help of WBBR (from Idaho) and we absolutely love her! Our family is now complete! I got involved as a volunteer because I think that it is a great organization and these beautiful creatures really deserve a good home where they can be loved and cared for as much as possible! These dogs are so beautiful and forgiving that they love so much they deserve the same! I am an animal lover and definitely a Boxer lover!!! I would do anything to help them!
Joe & Cailin Cousins Volunteer Since: 2006 Joe & Cailin discovered Without Borders Boxer Rescue quite by accident in 2005. They had been looking for a boxer for several years, found one that matched everything they'd wanted in their new family member, called the shelter to adopt her sight-unseen, only to be told she'd been sent to a "boxer rescue" that morning. Never having heard of a boxer rescue, research was done, they tracked the specific dog down, but she'd already found her forever home with someone who'd been waiting for someone just like her. It was bitter sweet, to say the least. My name is Sheri Bourrie, I live in Ladysmith with my husband, 2 teenage sons, a cat and two wonderful boxers, Thor and Libby. I coordinate home visits for Without Borders Boxer Rescue and complete home visits in Lower and Central Vancouver Island. My involvement with Without Borders Boxer Rescue came about after we adopted Libby (formerly Mrs. Weasley) from Boxer Rescue LA five years ago. Libby was a senior boxer at the time we adopted her and she is somewhere between 10 and 12 now. Rescuing a senior dog is the best thing we have done, Libby is such a sweet boxer. Since we adopted Libby I have been a constant visitor to the Boxer Rescue LA and WBBR sites. Realizing that adopting another boxer would result in a mutiny in my home I took the next best option and became a volunteer. Knowing that I play even a small part in facilitating the adoption of a needy boxer is incredibly gratifying. Thank you to Chantelle and all the other volunteers who make Without Borders Boxer Rescue such a great organization. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

While in the care of BRLA they are assessed and provided with any needed medical care. Before they are flown to Canada they will be spayed/neutered, brought up to date on shots and will be seen by a BRLA veterinarian. All our potential homes must fill out an adoption application and have a home visit. All members of the family must be home for the home visit. We want to have a chance to get to know your family so as to find the best possible match for you. All our dogs had had at least one previous family, some of them might have had more. We want to make sure that their placement is successful and that this will be their forever home.
With all of our adoptions we ask for an adoption donation. (WBBR/BRLA adoptions require their new owners to pay an adoption donation along with the cost of the airfare and crate.) The donation goes towards the WBBR's volunteers are all amazing individuals. We work very hard to care for each boxer that comes to WBBR. Please remember we are all volunteers, we have jobs, families and our own dogs to care for. Please be patient, we will return your phone call or email as quickly as possible. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Since their own business is website design and marketing, they saw a need and offered WBBR their services to rebuild their existing website to make it more user friendly, interactive and to showcase the available dogs a little better. During the website design process they got to know the organization founders and volunteers a little better and saw what incredible work they were doing. Cailin and Joe knew they were in for the long haul. Helping, for whatever large or small part, to find forever homes for boxers in need is an incredibly rewarding and sometimes life altering experience. Cailin and Joe did end up getting a puppy from a breeder in 2006, but recently adopted the first dog they fostered. The moved to a larger home, bought a larger vehicle and made some lifestyle adjustments to accomodate the larger family, ... and now the groundwork is set for even MORE boxers in their future! |
